In honor of International Women’s Day, we will be highlighting some of our favorite stories that show what we feel it means to be a strong, lovely girl!
Like this one…
When you feel insignificant and small – your voice is muted… silenced.

“But you will have to pay me too,” grinned the witch. “And I want no small payment. You have the most beautiful voice of all those who live in the ocean.
I suppose you have thought of using that to charm your prince; but that voice you will have to give to me. I want the most precious thing you have to pay for my potion…”
“But if you take my voice,” said the little mermaid, “what will I have left?”
“Your beautiful body,” said the witch. “Your graceful walk and your lovely eyes. Speak with them and you will be able to capture a human heart…”
~ Hans Christian Andersen -The Little Mermaid.
A fairy tale endures because it captures a timeless truth. One truth in this fairy tale is that our voice is “the most precious thing we have.” Our voice is the most powerful tool we have to let people know who we are and what we are about.
Our voice matters. Your voice matters.
This week, we will meet Aslinn (and other girls) who will share the story of their VOICE. An all too common story.
When you feel insignificant and small – your voice is muted. When horrible things happen to you – your voice is gagged. When shame sets in – your voice is silenced.

Silencing the voice of a girl means that compassion is silent.
Silencing the voice of a girl means that dreams go unfulfilled.
Silencing the voice of a girl means that relationships suffer.
Silencing the voice of a girl means that ideas are never heard.
Silencing the voice of a girl means that justice is goes unserved.
What are some ways our voice gets silenced?
What has the ability to take “the most precious thing we have…”?
Read on this week, and find out, precious ones!

I feel like it took most of my 20s to figure out the right way to use my voice (and I’m still learning!) – when reaching out to others, when speaking out, when to show compassion, and in recognizing the most impactful ways to use it. The The Lovely Project ONE DAY Experience is highlighting the power of VOICE this week – and forging ahead to give young ladies the opportunity to capture this precious gift in a healthy way. Check it out!
Can’t wait to read all the stories for this week!
