I hated myself: How I learned my VALUE… Grace’s story

I have a vivid memory of the first time I looked at my reflection… and my first thought was, “yuck.”

I was only five years old and I caught a glimpse of myself in a glass door while playing tag with some friends. I remember being surprised at how hideous the girl looking back at me was. I am now a mother of a four year old and have worked with dozens of little five year olds and I can clearly see how utterly impossible it is for a child that age to be anything but adorable.

However, this wasn’t the beginning of the battle for my self image and it wasn’t anywhere near the end.

I grew up in a good home where nothing way too traumatic happened to me. So there were no obvious reasons pointing to why I would continue to have severely self degrading thoughts and eventually wish to die by the time I was 20. But that’s just the thing about insecurities and self hatred… it doesn’t make sense, it’s not logical, and it’s not as easy as saying, “you are beautiful, now feel better.”

This is why I am so excited to be a part of The Lovely Project Experience. I have found the truth. I started changing the way I thought, spoke, and acted. I surrounded myself with an amazing community of women, and everything started changing. I am so excited to invite every girl that attends to experience this truth.

I have been passionately sharing on this topic for many years – from small groups of girls to large conferences, from five year olds to 55 year olds. I love presenting real, life changing news in exciting ways. I have a degree in music and have performed various places throughout my life singing and dancing from Walt Disney World to the Ukraine. This young generation really connects with the arts and I love how The Lovely Project team gets this.

Girls that attend the Experience should expect to be amazed!

At the event I will be focusing on honoring our value. Girls compare themselves with their friends, with the billions of perfect images of women in the media, with men, and with almost anything else that moves. Many girls dread growing older, gaining a pound, or having one wrinkle, because of the disgusting sexualization of young girls. Most girls are completely lost when it comes to what their true value is, let alone how to honor it. They are told they have no more self control than an animal in heat, and that nothing is expected of them but to ‘experiment’ while they are young. And we wonder why they struggle with finding meaning in life?

At The Lovely Project Experience, they will find a safe and unforgettably exciting place to exchange the lies they’ve been believing about who they are for the liberating truth.

Can’t wait to see you there!
