A Lovely August Update from Dr. Crystal Evans
The Lovely Project Foundation has been busy. We have made this a year of expanding our mentorship programs, as well as establishing partnerships with other like-minded organizations. Lovely has also been nominated for the 2015 Jaffe Award.
Our longstanding partnership with Northwest Church in Orlando, FL is very special to The Lovely Project. This community of people really cares about the at-risk girls in Orlando and has donated countless hours of service, as well as money and marketing for the various events that promote The Lovely Project. The Northwest Church facility is the generously donated site for our yearly Lovely Experience that provides state of the art equipment, production and staging for hundreds of girls. Along with the Northwest Dance Studio, these two partnerships have provided countless hours of service to girls in Orlando.
Our continued partnership with University Behavioral Center has stretched us in such amazing ways. It highlighted our need to write curriculum that specifically targets the needs of girls. Our six week, anti-bullying curriculum is the newest and welcomed addition to the other curriculum sessions we share at UBC. These lessons include understanding their intrinsic value, coming to grips with the life experiences that have robbed them of their voice, as well as giving them emotionally healthy alternatives when making decisions. Jim Cowser, the Clinical Director at UBC, has joined our Advisory Board and is a valuable addition.
May 2015 began our fledgling partnership with the Phyllis Wheatley Elementary School in Apopka, FL. The Lovely team that serves those 3rd, 4th and 5th grade girls after school has a blast! With the open house for the 2015-2016 school year behind us, we are now looking forward to a fun-filled, life affirming, after school program that will have measurable results in families’ lives in Apopka. Many thanks to Principal Linton Atkinson for allowing us to serve his school.
We will also be starting a Lovely mentorship group on the campus of Westside Tech in Winter Garden.
Crossroads Corral is another organization that we have recently partnered with. Lindsay and Julie are two women that are teaching positive life lessons to the kids through proper care and training of horses. The kids love it and they love the kids!
Whiskey&Bizz is an organization that has been a huge support to Lovely. They host a fundraiser annually and we are so thankful for them.
Our Advisory Board staff will have a presence on our website soon!
So, thank you again to our partners:
