The Lovely Project Forms Partnership with University Behavioral Center

University Behavioral Center in Orlando, Florida provides intensive mental health services to children, adolescents and adults as well as detox and substance abuse programs for adults. UBC offers inpatient treatment to assist individuals in leading more productive and fulfilling lives. The facility includes 88 licensed child and adolescent psychiatric beds and 24 licensed adult beds.

"In 2014 The Lovely Project began a rewarding partnership with the University Behavioral Center. Our stated purpose is to provide peer mentoring to the girls in residence. Providing weekly support, sharing personal experiences and fostering self-esteem through personalized curriculum, The Lovely Project enjoys being a part of these girls' journey to wholeness." says Dr. Crystal Evans, Founder of The Lovely Project.

"Upon return from a holiday break, we were greeted by the girls' smiling faces and this sentiment, 'Thank God you're back! We've missed you so much.'"

The Lovely Project's mentors travel weekly on Monday evenings to University Behavioral Center (near the UCF campus) to mentor girls in their facility for the duration of their stay. Twice a month, a team of Lovely choreographers offer jazz and tap instruction on Wednesday nights as a part of the outreach. Girls admitted to the program may stay only for a weekend or up to 9 months.

During a typical visit, Lovely mentors begin with an hour of sharing testimony, teach a lesson and close with a small group discussion for life application. This constructive and valuable experience provides the girls staying at UBC a chance to meet young women who have overcome similar circumstances. Dr. Evans explains, "We know sharing similar experiences can have a positive effect on the perspective of these girls. These young women represent whole families that need support."

To date, 100 girls at the University Behavioral Center have been touched by The Lovely Project program.
