Can you keep a secret? The thing is with VALOR: no one thinks that they have it; but it exists within each one of us, and we all need a little help igniting it.

VALOR: a noun that means showing great courage in the face of danger, especially in battle.
When you think of the word Valor, what pictures come to your head? Maybe a knight dressed in armor heading out with a javelin on a horse. Or maybe you think of a shiny medal that might be awarded to a soldier who just came back from a tour in Afghanistan.
Did you see a 12 year old girl, getting dressed for school in the morning looking at herself in the mirror? Did you see a 15 year old girl being smeared by another group of girls online? Did you see a 17 year old girl locking herself in her room at night to study amid the drunken screams of her parents?
Probably not.
We don’t have to look too far past our Middle and High Schools to find modern-day battle grounds. If it isn’t because of the literal shootings, and fights, and drug wars that are happening; there’s always the silent battleground of bullying, and emotional abuse, or trauma.
Unfortunately, this has become the norm. For too many girls. Like Jessica here:
A recent study out of NYU Child Study Center indicates the average American girl’s self-esteem peaks at the age of nine and then plummets. Yes, you read that correctly—nine.
We are not dealing with some unfortunate circumstance- we are in a full-fledged battle.
And if you don’t acknowledge it- then you have already lost it.
This month on The Lovely Project we have gotten to meet some of the bravest girls around. To be able to face these circumstances and live to tell about it- does deserve a medal! They showed and continue to show true VALOR. The one thing I think they all had in common, is that they all needed someone to show them how.
Can you keep a secret? The thing is with VALOR: no one thinks that they have it; but it exists within each one of us, and we all need a little help igniting it.
Here’s to the future modern day warriors princesses, the lovely ninjas in training, the secret agent spys to be, and the incubating super heroes of the next generation.
We salute you!
Can’t wait to see you Saturday at the Experience!
